Responsibility of Third Parties Emanating from the Findings of the ICJ’s Advisory Opinion of 19 July 2024

22 October 2024

On 19 July this year, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) rendered its Advisory Opinion on the Legal Consequences arising from the Policies and Practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem. It held, among other things, that Israel’s continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) is unlawful and must be brought to an end as rapidly as possible.

This publication analyses the far-reaching legal consequences for third States and international organisations emanating from the Court’s findings in the Advisory Opinion and seeks to further concretise these obligations by means of policy recommendations.

All publications on the advisory proceedings are available here, and a research page on legal proceedings relating to Israel and the oPt can be found here.
