ICC Arrest Warrants Against Israeli and Hamas Officials

As the hostilities between Israel and armed groups in Gaza persist and the levels of violence in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, remain high, the Diakonia IHL Centre provides regular updates regarding legal aspects of the evolving situation.

On 21 November 2024, in a momentous development, Pre-Trial Chamber I of the ICC issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, and the Commander-in-Chief of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri (‘Deif’), for war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed in Israel and the oPt since 7 October 2023.  

This legal update summarises the publicly known content of the arrest warrants, possible next steps in the proceedings, and legal implications for State and non-State parties to the Court.
