The ICJ Advisory Proceedings on Israel’s Occupation of Palestinian Territory
On 30 December 2022, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly requested the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to render an advisory opinion on the legal consequences of Israeli policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) as well as the legal status of the occupation as a whole. Public hearings took place from 19 to 26 February 2024, and the Court is expected to deliver its advisory opinion in the coming months. The Forthcoming ICJ Advisory Opinion and the Question of Palestine | Event Recording and Summary
The Diakonia IHL Centre Jerusalem devoted the fourth session of its event series Reflections on International Law and the Question of Palestine, which took place on 14 June 2023, to the forthcoming advisory opinion on Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory. The event featured contributions from three expert speakers, each of whom concentrated on a different item from the list of questions before the Court.
